Allens:
Ride to the Top
Jim
and Mary Allen of Allen's Diamond 4 Ranch in Lander have won the Shoshone
National Forest's 1997 Outfitter of the Year Award for their outstanding
public service, land stewardship and wildlife ethic.
The Allens have been outfitting on the forest for nearly 25 years, according
to Skip Shoutis, recreation planner on the Washakie Ranger District. "They're
one of the best I've ever worked with," Shoutis said. They
not only have a terrific wildland ethic, they also go the extra mile."
One example, he said, is the Allens youth program in which they teach
kids how to enjoy, appreciate and take care of Wyoming's wildlands. "You
have been and continue to set the standard for the industry in providing
high-quality recreation services, stewardship of the land and for the
safety and well-being not only of your clients but for other forest users
as well," said Forest Supervisor Rebecca Aus in her letter of commendation.
Aus said outfitters like the Allens greatly enhance the Forest Service's
ability to provide quality public service caring for the land.
